Episode Details

On February 1, 2026, 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, the mother of Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, disappeared from her home near Tucson, Arizona. Investigators found blood belonging to Nancy near the entrance, personal essentials left behind, and surveillance footage showing a masked man approaching the property. Authorities believe she was taken against her will and continue investigating the case as a kidnapping for ransom.

Six months later, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department released two ransom notes hoping someone might recognize the writer’s distinctive language. The first demanded $4 million in Bitcoin and threatened to increase the amount to $6 million. A second note claimed Nancy died shortly after the abduction and was “buried in nature.” The notes contained accurate details about the crime scene, but investigators have not confirmed Nancy’s death, recovered her remains, or arrested a suspect.
