Upgraded for Convenience

Many new car features are constantly introduced into new models. While some of them might seem unnecessary or gimmicky, a very important feature is the car's digital information and control system, given how manufacturers like to give owners and drivers the option to tune their car's settings; the experience must be user-friendly and convenient.

Technological features have one major benefit: updating them is rather easy; all it takes is one software update. GM just announced a new software update that aims to address some issues with its infotainment software.

Cadillac Freeform

GM's latest software update tackles infotainment software specific to Cadillac's Freeform user interface. The automaker says that these updates were shaped by customer feedback and cover a wide range of aspects like the home screen, media, digital vehicle controls, and apps. Overall, the new update will make the whole system more intuitive, responsive, and easier to navigate.

First is an improvement to the Spotify listening experience, where a new queuing display on the side of the screen gives drivers a glimpse into the next track. There is also a new drop-down source selector, making it easier to switch on the fly. One nuisance is when your personal settings get jumbled up after someone else drives the car; the update addresses that by allowing up to two new profiles to be synced, and with one touch of the button restores the driver's original settings.

It's hard enough to drive and stay attentive, but it is made even harder if the buttons on the screen are hard to tap, leading to mistaps and wrong changes. GM is enlarging the tap points to make it easier to change certain car settings. For the seat controls, there will be new on-screen graphics that mimic the actual physical controls, making it easier for the driver to get a visual representation of the comfort settings. Lastly, the charging notifications have been simplified to make them easier to understand and digest.
