World-first AI camera could prevent diabetic amputations
Published 1 week, 5 days ago
Description
Australian researchers at RMIT University and the University of Melbourne have developed a world-first handheld AI camera that predicts whether diabetic foot ulcers will heal from the first appointment. The technology analyses heat patterns and skin textures invisible to the human eye, helping doctors identify high-risk patients and intervene before amputation becomes necessary. Currently being tested in Victorian clinics, the device is seeking TGA approval for global use, with particular potential for remote areas where specialist care is limited.
