Af: Die winterse lug was koud en helder toe die familie bymekaargekom het in die ou plaashuis in Tulbagh.
En: The winter air was cold and clear when the family gathered in the old farmhouse in Tulbagh.
Af: Die reën het saggies teen die vensters getik, en die kaggelvuur het 'n warm gloed oor die vertrek gegooi.
En: The rain tapped softly against the windows, and the fire cast a warm glow over the room.
Af: Die geur van gebraaide skaapvleis en varsgebakte brood het die lug gevul.
En: The scent of roasted lamb and freshly baked bread filled the air.
