Alexandra Eala vs Elina Svitolina — full preview, head-to-head breakdown and prediction for the 2026 Mubadala Citi DC Open QUARTERFINAL in Washington, D.C. Two seasons colliding: a 21-year-old at a career-high, and a 31-year-old top-10 veteran who has been the model of consistency all year.

Alex Eala has been the story of the week at Rock Creek Park. The World No. 28 rallied from a set and a break down to beat Olympic gold medalist Qinwen Zheng 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 in the first round, then saved a 1-5 deficit in the second set to knock out defending champion Leylah Fernandez 6-2, 7-6(1) — two marquee names in 48 hours, and a first DC Open quarterfinal.

Standing across the net is No. 2 seed Elina Svitolina, World No. 10, 36-10 on the season with a 20-5 hard-court record and finals in Auckland and Rome. She came through a scrappy 7-6(4), 6-4 win over Polina Kudermetova — with nine double faults — and now gets a rematch she openly called "a new challenge."

And that's the hook: Eala leads the head-to-head 1-0. She beat Svitolina 6-3, 6-4 on grass in Berlin in June. This is their first meeting on hard court, and Svitolina has had six weeks to solve her.
