Patrol is the backbone of any PD, and the rest of us are SUPPORT! That means...get this...you are not better than a patrol officer because you are narcotics / homicide / state / federal / ANYTHING.
You need patrol's support, they need yours. and we're all on the same side. Today, as July wraps up and we get ready for cooler weather and schools to take these heathens back for ~40 hours a week, I will discuss my personal mistakes in managing these relationships. Times my life was endangered by fellow officers and I tried to put property on patrol to log when it was really kinda my responsibility.
Don't endanger your partners, do 'em right, we're on the same team. Here's how to put that in action.
