Goliath and the End of the Giants

Goliath and the End of the Giants

Published 3 weeks, 2 days ago
Description
Goliath is not a random large opponent who happened to be in the wrong valley. He is the Anakim remnant. Joshua 11:21-22 drove the Anakim from the covenant land to Gaza, Gath, and Ashdod -- the three Philistine cities Joshua could not follow them into. Generations later, that remnant produced Goliath.   David did not defeat him because he was brave. He defeated him because he understood what Goliath was: 'an uncircumcised Philistine defying the armies of the living God.' He applied the same theological logic he had used against a lion and a bear. The living God answers for his own armies.   After Goliath, four more: Ishbi-benob, Saph, Lahmi (Goliath's brother), and the six-fingered man. All from Gath. All descended from the Rephaim. All eliminated by David and his mighty men in 2 Samuel 21.

The arc that began with the Watchers on Hermon closes with David's generation finishing the Anakim remnant in the Philistine cities.
