Rack space is getting tighter, but clients still want that “proper hi-fi” feeling and that’s why we’re digging into Emotiva Audio’s new Differential Reference (DR) Stack, now confirmed for UK availability via Karma AV. If you design or install systems for media rooms, secondary zones, or anywhere full-width separates are a pain, this compact modular range is built to make your life easier without downgrading the sound.
We walk through what the stack actually is: a DRP-1 pre-amplifier, DRA-1 power amplifier, DRD-1 DAC, and an optional DRS-1 streamer DAC. The common thread is a fully balanced signal path designed to cut noise and keep dynamic range intact, plus installer-friendly details like consistent chassis styling, dimmable OLED displays, and 12V triggers. We also highlight the DRP-1’s 80 Hz bass management for simpler subwoofer integration, and the DRA-1’s power figures including a bridging option for more demanding loudspeakers, backed by audiophile-leaning published specs.
On the digital side, we break down the DRD-1’s ESS-based conversion and its support for high-resolution playback up to PCM 768 kHz and native DSD512, plus HDMI ARC for straightforward TV audio integration. If streaming is the brief, the DRS-1 adds a lifetime Volumio Premium licence with multi-room control for up to six zones, along with Connect support for services like Qobuz, Tidal and Spotify, making it a serious contender for modern network audio installs. We finish with UK pricing for each module and what to expect from August.
