Burst water main plunges Adelaide CBD into darkness
Published 2 weeks ago
Description
A burst water main on Grenfell Street flooded an underground substation at Coromandel Place, causing a power outage affecting 800 customers across Adelaide's CBD around 1:30am. The incident forced Botanic High School to send students home, Calvary Hospital to reschedule surgeries, and left businesses including suit shop Peter Shearer inundated. SA Water crews used heavy machinery to remove sections of the road by 4am to access and repair the damaged main, which burst due to changing soil conditions and ground movement.
