Want to turn your passion for gardening or composting into real community impact? Washington State University’s Thurston County Extension is now accepting applications for two hands-on volunteer training programs. The Master Gardener Volunteer Training starts Sept 25, 2026, and runs through May 14, 2027, teaching botany, soil science, pest ID, and food growing — with online, classroom, and fieldwork. Tuition is $291, covers materials and background checks, and includes a service commitment after training. Deadline: Aug 28 at 5 PM. The Master Recycler Composter program runs Fridays, Sept 18–March, taught by local experts, focusing on waste reduction and recycling. In-person, 10 AM–1 PM. Deadline: Aug 17 at 8 AM.
