Australia achieved its most dominant Commonwealth Games swimming campaign in Glasgow, claiming 37 gold medals including nine on the final night. Kai Taylor won the 200 metres following in the footsteps of his mother Hayley Lewis who won the same event in 1991, while Kyle Chalmers secured his 10th individual Commonwealth Games gold medal, joining Petria Thomas, Susie O'Neill and Ian Thorpe in rare company. The Australian team swept every freestyle event from 50 metres to 1500 metres, with retiring champion Shayna Jack claiming bronze in her final swim and the squad earning $1,272,500 in cash rewards from Gina Rinehart.
