החילוק בין הפסוק "בשבתך בביתך ובלכתך בדרך ובשכבך ובקומך" כפי שנאמר בפ' ראשונה של ק"ש [שבשישי דפ' ואתחנן] לכפי שנאמר בפ' שני' של ק"ש [שבשישי דפ' עקב] הוא: פסוק זה בפ' הראשונה בא בהמשך ל"ודברת בם" – שהוא ילמד תורה כך, אבל בפ' שני' זה בא בהמשך ל"ולמדתם אותם את בניכם לדבר בם בשבתך וגו'" – שגם הילדים ידברו בתורה באופן זה!, והיינו שגם א' שפעל על עצמו ללמוד תורה באופן כזה והוא דוגמא חי' וכו', עליו להתעסק במיוחד לפעול כך גם על הילדים – "משהתינוק מתחיל לדבר" – שגם כשחוזרים הביתה מבי"ס – "בשבתך בביתך" – ידברו "בם ולא בדברים בטלים". וזה, הזהירות מדברים בטלים, נוגע גם לבנות – אם רוצים שהבת תישאר יהודי' כשרה שיובילו לחופה כדת משה וישראל! ועוד: אפי' א' שעוד צריך לפעול ע"ע לא להיות "וסרתם ועבדתם וגו'", תובעים ממנו – באותה פרשה – שיתעסק בבת-אחת גם עם "בניכם" כנ"ל!

The words “…when you sit in your house and when you walk on the road, when you lie down and when you rise,” appear in in both the first paragraph of Shema (taken from shishi of parashas Va’eschanan) and the second paragraph (taken from shishi of parashas Ekev). The difference is that the first paragraph says “You shall speak of them when you sit in your house…”, meaning that a person himself must “speak of them,” while the second paragraph says, “You shall teach them to your children to speak of them when you sit in your house…” meaning you must teach the children to “speak of them.” In other words, even if someone has already trained himself to study Torah, and he serves as a living example for his children, nevertheless he must devote special effort to bringing his children to do the same: “From when the child begins to speak,” he should be taught “to speak of them and not of idle matters,” not only in school, but also “when you sit in your house….” This caution against idle talk applies to girls as well, if one wants his daughter to remain a faithful daughter of the Jewish people etc. And even someone who is on such a level that he still needs to be cautioned to “Take care lest…you turn astray and serve alien gods” is told, in that very same paragraph, to occupy himself with educating his children in this fashion.
