The Dog of Flanders – A Boy and His Dog
Description
Slow English. Timeless Stories. Quiet Moments.
Welcome to Season 5 of Quiet ENGLISH with Jacque.
This season marks a new beginning. Instead of retelling classic stories, I’ll be reading the original public-domain texts—slowly, clearly, and thoughtfully—making them accessible for English learners while preserving the beauty of the author’s own words.
We begin with The Dog of Flanders by Ouida, first published in 1872.
In this opening chapter, we meet young Nello, his grandfather Jehan Daas, and an exhausted work dog named Patrasche. What begins with a simple act of compassion soon grows into one of literature’s most beloved friendships—a story of kindness, loyalty, perseverance, and hope that has touched readers for generations.
Whether you’re learning English, rediscovering a classic, or simply looking for a few quiet moments in your day, I’m grateful you’ve chosen to listen.
If you have a story you think belongs here—a quiet story, a still story, a story worth sitting with—I would love to hear about it.
And if you are a writer—if you have written something gentle and true that you would like me to read—please send it to me as well. This podcast has room for new voices.
Until next time…
Be still. Be safe. And keep listening.
God bless.
