The Super Bee is Coming Back

Dodge has slapped the Super Bee name on many cars over the decades. The Coronet was the first to get it and applied to several iterations of the full-size sedan. It later moved to the Charger platform in 1971 as a single-year model, but Mexico used the moniker on a performance version of the Valiant until 1980.

The Super Bee returned in 2007 with the LX Charger. It ran from 2007 to 2009, then again from 2012 to 2014. Then, in 2023, the name came back as part of the Last Call final editions of the LX-platform Charger. After a three-year hiatus, Dodge is slapping that badge back to the Charger.

Great News, However...

In case you missed the headline, the new Super Bee won't be getting a V8. Well, that scuppers any hope for a Hemi comeback in the new-generation Charger, and it's bound to get certain reactions for that. We're not bluffing, either, as it's been confirmed by Dodge CEO Matt McAlear.

Teased during Roadkill Nights, the executive had this to say. "We’re about to reveal the most powerful Sixpack-powered Charger we've ever built, then spend the next day shoulder to shoulder with the enthusiasts who live and breathe Dodge performance," said McAlear. In case it's not clear, it's the boosted Hurricane inline-six that will reside under the hood.

How Much Power Will it Make?

Unfortunately, the announcement didn't give any hints about the car's specifications other than that it'll be a straight-six turbo. However, the claim of 'the most powerful Sixpack-powered Charger' is of interest.

The standard output Hurricane inline-six makes 420 hp and 468 lb-ft of torque, so it's not bad at all. However, the Scat Pack gets a high-output version of the same engine, bumping up output to 550 hp and 531 lb-ft. With that in mind, we might be looking at something close to 600 hp, or maybe even more.

We'll find out more once the car is revealed. Likely for the 2027 model year, the Charger Super Bee will debut on August 7. As for those who want a new Hemi Charger, there may be a glimmer of hope. Stellantis said the V8 will return by 2030, along with the Hellcat model. That's in the pipeline, and fingers crossed that it actually pushes through.
