Devastating wildfires in Spain and France have begun to stabilise after six days of firefighting efforts, but face renewed threat as Europe's fourth successive heatwave brings 40-degree temperatures. The fires have scorched more than 125,000 hectares in Spain this summer—six times last year's total—and over 115,000 hectares in France near Bordeaux, 12 times an average fire season.
