"Early Lives of Dante" features two early biographies of the renowned poet Dante, penned by prominent Florentine figures Giovanni Boccaccio and Lionardo Bruni. Boccaccio, celebrated for his work "The Decameron," and Bruni, a respected historian, provide contrasting perspectives on Dante’s life, particularly regarding the significance of his relationship with Beatrice. Boccaccio's portrayal is critiqued by Bruni, who believes it misrepresents Dante's legacy.
