Could a Sunflower Have Prevented a Panic Attack? (FIELD NOTES)

Episode 31 Published 2 months, 3 weeks ago
Description

🌻🌻🌻

Sunflowers, Salmon & 30 Seconds of Kindness

Today’s episode starts at a Coles self-checkout and ends somewhere much bigger.

After asking two women for a little extra personal space, Catharine finds herself on the edge of a panic attack as the interaction turns aggressive and ableist.

This is an episode about invisible disability, the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower, CPTSD, social anxiety, boundaries, and the enormous amount of work that can sit invisibly behind something as ordinary as buying salmon and edamame beans.

Sometimes kindness costs you 30 seconds.

And you have absolutely no idea what it took the person in front of you to get there.

Fury, salmon and sunflowers. 🌻

ABOUT THE HIDDEN DISABILITIES SUNFLOWER 🌻

The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is a discreet way for someone to indicate that they have a disability, condition or chronic illness that may not be immediately apparent, and that they may need a little more time, space, understanding or assistance.
