Supernatural: Road Trip (9x10) | Recap & Lore

Season 9 Episode 10 Published 2 months, 4 weeks ago
Description

Supernatural Season 9, Episode 10, Road Trip recap 🚗 A hunter’s funeral, a rock star in pleather pants, and Crowley finally gets out of the dungeon, on Denim-wrapped Nightmares, a Supernatural rewatch podcast.

Road Trip picks up right where the mid-season finale left everyone’s broken hearts. Dean is not okay, Sam still doesn’t know what’s been living inside him, and the only one with a plan to fix it is Crowley. That tells you how bad things have gotten. Plus, LA recaps the entire first half of Season 9 after an unexpectedly long hiatus.

Episode Highlights:

  • A hunter’s funeral set to Bob Seger’s The Famous Final Scene
  • A rock star in pleather pants (he cannot pull off that look)
  • Cas arrives in a new, more structured trench coat, and Berly is not a fan
  • Dean, Cas, and Crowley: Plan A with no Plan B
  • Cas’s champagne-colored hoopty, hydraulics and all (and he likes it, thank you very much)
  • Crowley’s narc, planted at the NSA
  • A very handsome angel named Abner, with a “nibblet” and a happy human life
  • Directed by Robert Singer, which explains the transitions, plus Misha Collins’s straight-armed punch held for the camera
  • Crowley goes inside Sam’s head: red smoke, “Poughkeepsie,” and a surprisingly tender moment
  • “See you on the campaign trail”: Abaddon learns Hell isn’t a dictatorship

LA loved having Crowley out of the dungeon and seeing Tahmoh Penikett back in a Henley. Berly says the highlight is Crowley inside Sam’s head, where his leftover humanity is clearly still hanging around. Her beef: everyone keeps saying “I had no choice,” when they did make a choice, and they should own it. The brothers end the episode on very shaky ground. The gore is minimal, with Abner’s body the only real contender. And why was Metatron hanging out in that bar? The hosts have theories.

In the lore segment, LA revisits the real Aleister Crowley, first covered in Abandon All Hope. He was the self-proclaimed “Beast” who founded his own religion, Thelema, and inspired everyone from Neil Gaiman to Ozzy Osbourne. The reputation turned out to be bigger than the man. Sound familiar?

“I’m not one for sloppy seconds.” – Crowley
