This week on Another Triathlon Podcast, Jenna-Caer (@jennacaer) and Josh (@joshmvernon) are joined by special guest Matthew Marquardt.

Matthew talks about his rapid rise in triathlon, from swimming at Princeton and biking across the country during COVID, to winning Kona as an age grouper, turning pro, balancing medical school at Ohio State, and becoming one of the top full-distance athletes in the sport.

He shares how he got into triathlon, why he waited before taking his pro card, how he balances racing with medical school, and what finally helped him solve the cramping issues that affected several of his races last season.

The episode also dives into his Ironman South Africa win, Cape Epic experience, Ironman Lake Placid performance, and what he believes will matter most heading into Kona.

After the interview, Jenna-Caer and Josh recap Ironman 70.3 Boise, where Sam Long delivered a huge performance with a massive bike ride and dominant win, and WTCS London, where Matt Hauser and Cassandre Beaugrand continued their incredible form.

Race Breakdown

Ironman 70.3 Boise

Boise brought rough swim conditions, a big men’s field, and one of Sam Long’s strongest performances yet. After a solid swim in choppy water, Sam went all-in on the bike, set a new course record split, and ran strong enough to finish off a dominant win.

On the women’s side, Kirsten Kasper showed her short-course speed can translate to 70.3 racing, running through for the win after a strong swim-bike battle at the front.

WTCS London

WTCS London delivered more fast, chaotic sprint-distance racing. Matt Hauser continued his standout season with another win, while Cassandre Beaugrand showed again why she is one of the hardest athletes in the world to beat when the race comes down to the run.
