Back to EpisodesI Got Paid by a Crypto Company That Doesn't Exist Anymore
Description
This exchange collapsed in 2019. It just paid me anyway.
Back in 2019, during the ICO and Dogecoin era, Cryptopia exchange got hacked and went into liquidation. Seven years later, through liquidator Grant Thornton, funds finally got released, paid out at the original dollar value rather than current token prices. We compare this to the FTX and Mt Gox creditor repayment processes and talk through what actually happens when an exchange collapses.
We also go around the panel on our biggest personal investing mistakes, from tunnel vision on ICOs like Casper and Mina instead of diversifying into majors, to the risk of working inside the crypto industry while also holding crypto investments.
Finally, we cover Anthropic pulling their AI model Fable 5 after US government pressure over security concerns. The decentralized AI token TAO surged 17.2% on the news. We discuss whether this is really about security or the US buying time to patch government systems, and what it means for decentralized AI platforms going forward.
