Youth mental health crisis reaches record levels
Published 2 weeks, 2 days ago
Description
Mental health disorders among young Australians have reached record levels, with more than one in three young people now meeting the criteria for a mental health disorder. Anxiety and mood disorders have more than doubled since 2007, with suicidal thoughts also doubling during this period. The increases show not only higher rates but also greater severity, complexity and impact on young people's ability to study, work and learn, with researchers pointing to housing insecurity, financial pressures, climate crisis concerns and the effects of digital media as contributing factors.
