Western Sydney airport opens cargo operations

Western Sydney International Airport at Badgerys Creek has officially opened its 24-hour cargo facility, with 12 freight flights departing and arriving on the first night, carrying approximately 160,000 parcels. The state-of-the-art facility can unload eight Airbus A330s or 16 Boeing 737s simultaneously, providing a 33% boost to Sydney's cargo capacity with a quarter of a million tonnes of freight annually. Passenger plane operations are scheduled to commence in three months, with noise insulation programs in place for nearby residents.
