Story Transcript:

Lv: Jāņu nakts pie Juglas ezera klāt.
En: Jāņu night by Juglas Lake had arrived.

Lv: Mājīgā lauku māja silti pieguļ krasta, un gara zaļie koki čukst vasaras dziesmu.
En: The cozy countryside house snugly sat by the shore, and the tall green trees whispered the song of summer.

Lv: Šis bija bijis Jāņa, Ineses un Mārtiņa nostūrītis daudzus gadus.
En: This had been Jānis, Inese, and Mārtiņš's little corner for many years.

Lv: Māja, koki, ezers – tieši kā bija kopš bērnības.
En: The house, the trees, the lake – just as they had been since childhood.

Lv: Jānis, lauku mājas sargs, visvairāk no visiem priecājās, ka viss nemainās.
En: Jānis, the guardian of the countryside house, was the most pleased of all that everything remained unchanged.

Lv: Bet šoreiz Jāņu vakarā bija kas drūms gaisā.
En: But this time, on Jāņu evening, there was something gloomy in the air.

Lv: Jānis, Inese un Mārtiņš sēdēja pie ugunskura, un diskusija beidzot izbēga kontroli.
En: Jānis, Inese, and Mārtiņš sat by the campfire, and the discussion finally slipped out of control.

Lv: Inese un Mārtiņš uzstājās, ka lauku mājai nepieciešami jauni logi un modernas ērtības.
En: Inese and Mārtiņš insisted that the countryside house needed new windows and modern amenities.

Lv: "Tas piesaistīs viesus," teica Inese.
En: "It will attract guests," said Inese.

Lv: "Nepieciešama pieeja interneta un jauni mēbeles," piebilda Mārtiņš.
En: "We need internet access and new furniture," added Mārtiņš.

Lv: Jānis klusē, pārdomā, un mēģina saglabāt mieru.
En: Jānis remained silent, pondering, and tried to keep calm.

Lv: Viņam sāpēja sirds domājot, ka vecā māja var mainīties uz neatpazīstamību.
En: It pained him to think that the old house could change beyond recognition.

Lv: Viņš atcerējās katru piecas savas bērnības, vasaras, un kā viss šķita vienkārši un patiesi šeit.
En: He remembered every summer of his childhood and how everything seemed simple and true here.

Lv: "Kas slikts vecajā?
En: "What's wrong with the old?"

Lv: " viņš ieprasījās, cenšoties saglabāt savu balsi tik mierīgu, cik iespējams.
En: he inquired, trying to maintain his voice as calm as possible.

Lv: Bet Inese un Mārtiņš neatkāpās.
En: But Inese and Mārtiņš did not retreat.

Lv: Viņi bija pārliecināti, ka nepieciešamas pārmaiņas.
En: They were convinced that changes were necessary.

Lv: Tikai tad viņi varēs saglabāt māju.
En: Only then could they preserve the house.

Lv: "Mums jārūpējas, lai mūsu bērniem arī būtu savs patvērums nākotnē," teica Inese maigi.
En: "We must ensure that our children also have their own refuge in the future," said Inese gently.

Lv: Ugunsdzirkstis iemetās gaisā, gaismas un ēnas spraužot dejas uz viņu sejām.
En: The fire sparks leapt into the air, casting light and shadow dances on their faces.

Lv: Jānis mineja savas ieceres.
En: Jānis mulled over his plans.

Lv: Stāvēja pie izvēles krustcelēm.
En: He stood at a crossroads.

Lv: Mainīties vai nē?
En: To change or not?

Lv: Mierīgi uzlūkojot draugus, viņš sajuta, ka mīlestība pret draugiem un māju bija viņu vienojošā saikne.
En: Looking peacefully at his friends, he felt that his love for his friends and the house was their unifying bond.

Lv: "Es esmu gatavs mazliet mainīties," teica Jānis.
