Wage statistics rarely make for compelling reading, but the figures released by Taiwan's Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics in July have given policymakers something to point at. Average monthly regular wages, which cover base pay and fixed allowances while excluding bonuses and overtime, reached NT$49,216 in May, up 2.95 percent from a year earlier and the second-fastest growth for that month in 27 years. Once inflation is stripped out, real regular wages over the first five months of 2026 rose 1.27 percent, the biggest gain for the period in six years.
薪資統計向來不是什麼吸睛的題材，但行政院主計總處 7 月公布的這組數字，總算讓官方有東西可以拿出來講。5 月經常性薪資平均達新台幣 49,216 元，年增 2.95%,是 27 年來同月份次高的增幅。經常性薪資指的是本薪加上固定津貼，不含獎金與加班費。剔除物價因素後，今年前 5 月實質經常性薪資年增 1.27%，創 6 年來同期的新高。
The engine behind this is not hard to identify. Artificial intelligence has driven demand for Taiwanese electronic components and optoelectronics, and the resulting revenues have filtered through to payslips in the form of overtime, performance bonuses and year-end payouts. DGBAS census official Tan Wen-ling has repeatedly attributed the momentum to AI-related sectors, noting that firms elsewhere have also raised wages simply to hold their ground in a tight labour market.
