A 2001 Maryland murder case was finally solved after more than 20 years when DNA evidence linked Eugene Gligor to the killing of wife and mother Leslie Preer. Gligor, who had once dated Preer’s daughter, was identified through a familial DNA match and arrested after police collected his discarded water bottle for testing. He later pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 30 years, bringing long-awaited justice—though Leslie’s husband, once wrongly suspected, died before seeing the case solved.
