Episode Details

Set against the backdrop of 1812 Portugal, "Actress in High Life: An Episode in Winter Quarters" by Susan Petigru King-Bowen follows British officers, particularly the charming Colonel l'Lisle, as they navigate the complexities of military life and personal relationships during a winter stationed in Elvas. The narrative offers a rich exploration of the landscape, history, and the often controversial discussions around liturgy among the characters, making it more of a travelogue than a romance.
