Bird flu reaches Queensland in suspected third state case
Published 2 weeks, 4 days ago
Description
Queensland has reported its first suspected case of H5 bird flu after a dead migratory petrel was found washed up on the eastern side of Moreton Island. The seabird has tested positive for avian influenza and samples have been sent to CSIRO for final confirmation. If confirmed, this would bring Australia's total bird flu cases to 18, with 10 in Western Australia, 5 in South Australia and 2 in New South Wales, though authorities confirm there have been no detections in poultry and eggs remain safe to eat.
