Nationwide AusAlert emergency warning system test on Monday
Published 2 weeks, 4 days ago
Description
Australia will conduct its first nationwide test of AusAlert, a new national emergency warning system, on Monday. All compatible mobile phones will receive a 10-second alert that cannot be bypassed unless devices are switched off, with the system designed to deliver warnings for critical emergencies like earthquakes, tsunamis and terrorism. The cell broadcast technology, already used in many countries for over 20 years, aims to deliver emergency warnings faster and more reliably during disasters such as bushfires, floods and cyclones.
