Simon McGrath: brother of murdered builder Michael McGrath on the proposed 'no body, no parole' law

Published 1 month, 2 weeks ago
Description

The family of a murdered Christchurch man whose body was never found is welcoming a renewed push for a 'no body, no parole' law.

A Bill from National MP Tom Rutherford would only let convicted murderers be released, if they reveal where to find their victim's remains.

A similar push in 2020 didn't get through.

Simon McGrath - whose brother Michael was killed - says he’s not sure this law would've changed his case, but he sees value.

"The bill's certainly going to incentivise perpetrators to do the right thing and give up information about the location of their victim's remains - it's a leveraging tool for the police."
