Published 2 weeks, 5 days ago
Description
The Battle of Pozieres, which began 110 years ago, resulted in 23,000 Australian casualties and more than 6,500 deaths, making it one of the worst battles Australian forces have ever faced. France and Australia commemorated the 110th anniversary of the battle, where the 1st, 2nd and 4th Battalions liberated the small village in the Somme from German forces during World War One. The French community continues to honour the sacrifice of Australian soldiers who fought to threaten the German stronghold in this devastating campaign.
