Crime gangs target Perth students as money mules

Crime gangs target Perth students as money mules

Published 2 weeks, 4 days ago
Description
Organised crime gangs are infiltrating Perth universities and TAFEs to recruit international students as money mules, with criminals luring vulnerable students to launder thousands of dollars through their bank accounts in exchange for cash payments. Australia's major banks are shutting down 35 suspicious accounts per day, while Crimestoppers has launched a campaign warning students that participation could result in criminal charges, visa cancellations, and identity theft. Police and authorities are urging the more than 70,000 international students targeted to recognise warning signs and report suspicious recruitment attempts.
