In today's episode, I’m talking about Slovak subordinating conjunctions. You will also learn how to say “When I feel like it“ in Slovak.

Slovak lesson

Some of the most common subordinating conjunctions are:

1. že (that)

    Povedal, že príde zajtra. (He said that he will come tomorrow.)

    Vedeli ste, že Slovensko je v strede Europy? (Did you know that Slovakia is in the center of Europe?)

2. aby (so that, in order to, with the aim of)

     Študujem, aby som urobil /-a skúšku. (I study so that I pass the exam.)

     Deti pijú mlieko, aby vyrástli. (Children drink milk so that they (to) grow up.)

3. pretože / lebo (because)

     Neprišiel, pretože bol chorý. (He didn’t come because he was sick.)

     Nejdeme do zahraničia, lebo nemáme peniaze. (We don't go abroad because we don't have money.)

4. keď (when) 

    Kým budeš, keď vyrastieš? (Who will you be when you grow up?)

     Keď budem veľká, budem učiteľka. (When I grow up, I will be a teacher.)

    Keď prídu hostia, pôjdeme do parku. (When the guests arrive, we will go to the      park.)

5. ak (if)

    Ak budeš mať čas, zavolaj mi. (If you have time, call me.)

    Zastav sa u nás po práci, ak máš čas. (Stop by after work if you have time.)

6. hoci / aj keď (although/even though)

     Hoci pršalo, išli sme von. (Although it was raining, we went out.)

       Aj keď bola unavená, knihu dočítala až do konca. (Even though she was tired, she read the book to the end.)

7. kým (while/until)

    Počkám, kým neprídeš. (I’ll wait until you come.)

    Kým deti spali, mama varila. (While the children slept, mom cooked.)

8. Keď budem mať chuť (When I feel like it)

    Prídem, keď budem mať chuť. (I'll come when I feel like it.)
