Bryan Betty: Former General Practice NZ Chair and incoming Health NZ Board member on what needs to be focused on in healthcare
Description
One of the country’s most influential GPs is flagging an issue with the health system’s focus.
Dr Bryan Betty signing off as General Practice NZ Chair this week after more than three years in the role to join the Health NZ Board.
He believes New Zealand has reached a pivotal moment in how it plans and delivers healthcare.
Betty told Kerre Woodham that conversations around healthcare often centre around emergency departments and hospitals, while the primary care system and general practices receive little focus.
He says early intervention, and access to it, is absolutely critical going forward.
