Description

Mohommad Nazeer Paktyawal served in Afghan special forces starting in 2005, fighting alongside US Army special forces in Paktika province. He was evacuated to the US after the withdrawal. He had six children and worked at a bakery in Texas. ICE detained him Thursday morning in front of his kids as he was leaving for school drop-off. He was dead by 9:10 the next morning. ICE called him a “criminal illegal alien” based on an arrest that never resulted in charges or a conviction. The Trump administration has ended temporary protected status for Afghans, shut down the special immigrant visa program, and 39 people have now died in ICE custody. An Iraq war veteran who worked alongside allies just like Paktyawal breaks it down.
