In this episode, Naziaty shares what a near-fall off a bus taught about accessible transportation in Malaysia — and the two universal design bus stops build in Kuala Lumpur to fix the problems. From cracked sidewalks and illegal ramps to a 900mm-wide path blocked by a tree, we wheel/walk through the everyday "first mile, last mile" barriers disabled Malaysians face, and the messy jurisdictional maze of thirteen-plus agencies responsible for the street environment.
Naziaty also breaks down where Malaysia's accessibility standards fall short compared to Singapore's, and why the numbers matter more than people think: elderly residents alone make up 12% of the population, under-18s over a quarter, and registered disabled persons 2.4% — likely a major undercount given voluntary registration and the WHO's global estimate of 16%. It's a candid, hands-on look at what it actually takes to design, fund, and build streets that work for everyone.
