Young Mother’s Fight Against Breast Cancer | London News
Description
A 29-year-old mother of three from South London, Nellie Gbadebo, was told her breast lumps were normal — until they turned out to be aggressive estrogen-positive cancer that had spread. Diagnosed in 2023 during her wedding year, she underwent chemo and radiotherapy, and was medically induced into early menopause at 29 to fight recurrence. Struggling to mother her young children and feeling isolated during treatment, she found strength in connecting with other women who’d been silenced by their own health fears — especially Black and African-Caribbean women pressured to “perform” despite illness. Now, she’s launching “The Girls Bathroom,” a pop-up event in Shoreditch designed to create a safe, community-driven space for breast health conversations, featuring experts, panels, and a DJ — all free, but limited — to help women feel seen, supported, and empowered to talk about their bodies without shame.
