Two Alaska Zoo bears, Izzy and Kitty, got into a nasty fight last month — Izzy bit Kitty’s back, leaving her badly hurt. Though Kitty recovered, zoo officials decided it was safer to move her to a private enclosure at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, where she’s now living under a new name, Taiga. Originally rescued from an abuse investigation in Haines, Taiga had been living with Izzy and another bear, Oreo — but after the scuffle, experts believe she’ll thrive better alone. Both bears received medical care, and thankfully, no lasting damage was done. Taiga is settling into her new, solitary life.
