A golden apple sparks a fierce contest between three powerful goddesses, leading Paris to make a choice that will plunge Greece and Troy into war. Meanwhile, Telemachus reaches Pylos, where the wise King Nestor shares stories of the heroes who fought beside Odysseus. His search then takes him to the magnificent palace of Menelaus and Helen, where surprising memories may finally reveal clues about his missing father.

With the upcoming release of The new Odyssey film coming up, I have decided to read a version of the Odyssey that also includes the Tales of Troy. I studied the odyssey at school, and I’m looking forward to reading the full story.

Part 2 Recap - With the secret help of the goddess Athene, Telemachus gathers supplies and a crew before sailing from Ithaka in search of his missing father. As their ship travels through the night, the minstrel Phemius tells them how Troy became the greatest and most strongly defended city in the world. He recounts how Paris awarded the golden apple to Aphrodite, angering Hera and Athene in return for the promise that the world’s most beautiful woman would become his wife. Paris later carried Helen away from King Menelaus, causing the Greek kings and heroes, including Odysseus and Achilles, to unite against Troy. Telemachus arrives at Pylos and asks the elderly King Nestor for news of Odysseus, but Nestor knows nothing of what happened to him after the war. Nestor therefore lends Telemachus a chariot and sends his son Peisistratus to guide him across the country to Sparta. At the magnificent palace of Menelaus, the two travellers are warmly welcomed into a great wedding feast before anyone asks who they are. Helen recognises Telemachus from his remarkable resemblance to Odysseus, and Menelaus prepares to reveal the last news he received of his long-lost friend.
