This means that we are so concerned with how people view our lives through social media and social circles in general, that we appear to be happier than we are, doing more than we actually are and being something, or someone, that we think other people think we should be. It's kind of a mess, but Preston hits on some major insights into why we post the things we do and why we like to 'brag' about where we have been and what we are doing with our lives.
