Islington Leads Healthy Streets Again | London News

Published 3 weeks ago
Description

Islington’s streets just got a major upgrade—again—claiming the top spot for the sixth straight year as the healthiest, greenest, and most walkable in inner London. Thanks to their Liveable Neighbourhoods plan, areas like Cally and Mildmay are becoming safer, cleaner, and more inviting—with input from locals. St John Street’s transformation includes 700m² of new public space, half planted with greenery. Kids are getting safer routes to school, with new School Streets at Newington Green Primary and one coming soon for Elizabeth Garrett Anderson. Over 1,700m² of new green space and 700+ trees have been added. To get people moving, nearly 3,000 kids and 454 adults took free cycling lessons, and over 1,000 joined an all-ability cycling program. Plus, 150+ new bike hangars now offer secure parking for nearly 4,000 bikes.
