INTER DEPARTMENT SWIMMING COMPETITION WITHIN MY FACULTY (FESSA)
Description
We had the inter-department swimming competition yesterday in the Faculty of Environmental Science and the whole place was loud. Every department showed up with their colors and banners. Urban and Regional Planning, Estate Management, Geography, Architecture, Building, Surveying and Geoinformatics, Fine and Applied Arts, and Building Technology were all there. The pool side looked like a small stadium. People were drumming, chanting department names, and just hyping their swimmers. It wasn’t only about the swimming, it was about who would carry the bragging rights for the session.
I swam the 50m freestyle for my department. When they called our heat we lined up, whistle blew, and everybody jumped in. The first 25m I was good, but I could see Architecture and Building guys pushing too. Around the turn my arms started burning and I could hear people screaming from the side 😂 I just kept going and touched the wall. I didn’t come first but I got points for us. Other departments also had strong swimmers. The 100m, relays, and even the fun race where lecturers joined made it more interesting.
The competition was close. Surveying and Geoinformatics and Fine and Applied Arts had some really fast guys. Estate Management won one of the relays and Geography did well in the longer race. But in the end URP took the overall cup. They had swimmers in almost every event and they collected the most points. When they announced it the whole URP side went crazy. Confetti, shouting, everybody was just celebrating like they won the World Cup.
It was tiring but it was worth it. The event was well organized and it brought the whole faculty together. Even departments that didn’t win were happy because everybody participated. I’m already thinking about training harder for next year so my department can challenge URP. The energy, the rivalry, and swimming for your department made the day special.
