Summerfest 250: Drones, Music, and Community
Description
This year’s Summerfest in Lawrence is bigger and bolder with a dazzling 400-drone light show—double last year’s display—set to light up the sky Saturday, July 4th, from 4 PM to 10 PM at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. After last year’s tech hiccups, the city’s new drone partner, Aerial Illuminations, is promising a flawless, jaw-dropping spectacle that kicks off after the Lawrence City Band. Beyond the drones, expect live music from Making Movies and Kelley Hunt & The Five, aerial acrobats, giant bubbles, street magic, and even Uncle Sam on stilts. There’s also a tribute gallery honoring public servants and acoustic sets in Building 21. All events are free, family-friendly, and rain-or-shine—though severe weather could affect outdoor acts. It’s a vibrant celebration of America’s 250th anniversary and a joyful summer kickoff for the Lawrence community.
