Liberty Bell Rings Again in North Dakota | Bismarck News
Description
North Dakota’s Liberty Bell got a historic workout Monday as Governor Kelly Armstrong and State Historical Society Director Bill Peterson rang it for the first time inside the Heritage Center — a sound that hasn’t echoed there since 1976. This full-size replica, gifted in 1950 as part of a U.S. savings bond drive and once toured the state on a flatbed truck, has deep roots in North Dakota’s history, having graced the Capitol and Century High School before settling at the museum. More than just a relic, it’s a symbol of enduring freedom. And with its ringing, the Heritage Center kicks off a new two-year exhibit, “ND250 Road Trip: Our American Story,” opening July 1st at 9 AM — a celebration of 250 years of American history and North Dakota’s role in it.
