Mexican Masks Dance to Life in Las Cruces | El Paso News
Description
Dancing with Life: Mexican Masks is a vibrant new exhibit at the Las Cruces Museum of Art, spotlighting the rich cultural traditions of Michoacán, Mexico. Featuring 50 masks and five full dance costumes, the show explores how these powerful symbols are worn in festive danzas—representing everything from saints and devils to politicians and everyday satire. Curated by Pavel Shlossberg, a Gonzaga University associate dean who lived among mask artists in Michoacán, the exhibit blends deep cultural insight with academic rigor. It’s part of a national tour that began in Spokane and now brings this immersive experience to Las Cruces through October 17th. Free admission. Open Tue–Fri 10 AM–4:30 PM, Sat 9 AM–4:30 PM.
