Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced a new chapter in India–Australia sporting ties during Modi’s visit to the Melbourne Cricket Ground on 10 July. The partnership includes a sporting exchange program, expansion of the Big Bash League into India, promotion of AFL in India, and a stronger presence for kabaddi in Australia. The visit also saw more than 20,000 people attend a community event on 9 July at the Marvel stadium, while a small group of protesters gathered outside to oppose the visit.
