UPDATE: Both suspects have been sentenced. Shooter Adrian Avila pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and received 29 years in prison (April 2024). Accomplice Anna Bella Dukes pleaded guilty to armed robbery and was sentenced to 5 years (November 2025). Elias’s mother co-founded the New Mexico Crusaders for Justice.
