Freshman Nico Olea just crushed it on the baseball field, winning the El Paso County Collegiate Player of the Year award while leading the county in six offensive categories. Hitting a blistering .448 with 77 hits, 24 doubles, 15 homers, and 75 RBIs—both the doubles and RBIs set new EPCC records. He played in 52 games, hit safely in 46, and had a 23-game hitting streak. Coach Julien Soucy raved about his relentless work ethic, and Nico earned First Team honors from both the Western Junior College Athletic Conference and NJCAA Region V. Fellow EPCC sophomore Sal Rocha was also nominated. The El Paso Baseball Hall of Fame banquet is this Sunday, August 2nd.
