AI Won’t Replace Teachers, It Will Expose Weak Learning

Season 1 Episode 95 Published 4 days, 4 hours ago
Description

Kane from the Teachers AI Cafe argues that AI won’t replace good teachers but will expose weak thinking and weak assessment by making polished output easy to generate without real understanding. He warns against mistaking fluent AI work for genuine learning and notes students aren’t automatically “AI native,” often lacking the judgment to evaluate accuracy, bias, and reasoning. Rather than banning AI, he recommends redesigning tasks to make thinking visible through process evidence such as annotated drafts, oral questioning, in-class writing, and defending claims. He cautions that AI can remove the apprenticeship struggle that builds expertise, improving products while weakening learners. Used well, AI should be a thinking partner—challenging arguments, prompting deeper analysis, and supporting feedback—while students remain responsible for final judgment.
