En: The sun had not yet stretched its rays over the South African countryside when Johann was already sitting in the kitchen.
Af: Hy kyk deur die venster na die wit ryp wat die velde bedek.
En: He looked through the window at the white frost covering the fields.
Af: Die koue byt deur sy dik jas.
