Why Workers Are Ghosting the AI Tools You Already Paid For
Published 1 week, 1 day ago
Description
Enterprise AI budgets are soaring, but here's the uncomfortable truth: nearly one in three workers isn't using any AI tools at all. Three major 2026 studies — from SHRM, ManpowerGroup, and Glean — reveal that the biggest barrier to AI adoption isn't technology. It's trust, training, and culture.
The numbers are striking. Nearly half of all organizations have now deployed AI tools. Yet 34% of workers don't use them. And in a counterintuitive twist, as AI usage among workers climbed 13% last year, worker confidence in AI actually fell 18% over the same period. More exposure, less trust. What's going on?
The research points to a training crisis. Workers with adequate AI training adopt tools at a 76% rate. Those without? Just 25%. That's a three-times difference — and yet only 36% of workers say they have sufficient training today, down from 45% in 2024. Meanwhile, more than half of organizations are making AI strategy decisions without HR at the table at all.
This episode breaks down the AI deployment gap, what's driving it, and the five things HR leaders can do right now to close it — before another round of AI spending goes to waste.
